The Master Gardener Center is reserved for members of the Master Gardener's Association. Here, members can get information about issues that relate to their activities and interests. There is a Calendar of all activities and events; postings for volunteer opportunities and educational programs; the Newsletter (Hoedown); and a complete listing of all active projects. In addition, there is a member directory, a bulletin board, and all the pages listed at the left side of this page.

We hope our Master Gardeners find these features useful and we hope to continue serving the needs of the Association and its members through ongoing expansion and enhancement of this Website.

The Master Gardener Association is proud to announce the creation of an annual recognition program designed to acknowledge the outstanding contributions Master Gardeners make to the Association/MG Foundation. Nominations are being accepted now, so click here to find out about Award Categories and Eligibility and how you can participate. Nominations must be submitted by September 10.

ADVANCED EDUCATION CLASSES ARE NOW FREE!

The Executive Board of the Master Gardener Association is pleased to announce that there will no longer be a fee to attend the advanced education classes.

The Board feels that this is one way it can recognize the contributions of the hundreds of volunteers who give so much of their time each year. It is hoped that the free classes will encourage more Blue Pin holders to expand their knowledge and stay current with the latest developments in horticulture.

Master Gardeners will still need to fill out registration forms and mail them to Advanced Education Coordinator, Cynthia Drummond. Cynthia will return checks to those MGs who have already sent them for classes in the fall.

Please note that we will no longer be offering refreshments, so bring your own water, coffee and snacks!

Be sure to check the Master Gardener website often for educational opportunities. There are already several exciting workshops this fall, and we are looking forward to welcoming more of you to the classes!

“Go often to the house of a friend, for soon weeds choke up the unused path”

The words of this message could pertain to us as Master Gardeners. We need to “go often” to the place where we gather in order to renew old friendships, catch up on the latest information and strengthen our bonds. That place is our Membership Meetings.

But that is certainly not the only place. There aren’t any “weeds” choking the path of the new Executive Board. They’ve been busily meeting through the holidays, planning strategies, classes, and events for what is looking to be a very exciting and energetic year.

  • President Parker has an innovative new page called The President’s Place where you can keep in touch with the happenings of MGA through the eyes of the President.
  • The Public Image Committee has completed the new Master Gardener Information Kiosk and it made its debut at the RI FLower Show. Very professional!
  • Now, the Membership Meetings…mark your calendars…
    • William Cullina, Director of Horticultural Research at the New England Wildflower Society Garden in the Woods and Nasami Farm, will discuss his most recent book, Native Ferns, Moss, and Grasses,  September 15
  • And, don’t forget to use the Suggestion Box on the Website...visit The President’s Place... email your ideas, hopes, suggestions for maybe a new MG project or an idea for the good use of our funds.

We come from many different experiences, jobs, locations, beliefs, but we share one love – and that is gardening.  We may be frantically trying to work a meeting in around our busy schedule, or simply trying to add up the education hours required to keep MG membership active, but we all are aware that an organization cannot succeed unless its members continue to stay involved.

Please mark your calendars and join your fellow Master Gardeners at the Membership Meetings – don’t let “weeds choke up the unused path.”
